Tanzania Knowledge Network (TAKNET) is a joint initiative by the United Nations through its Joint Program on Capacity Development for Development Management under one UN initiative, The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and The Economic and Social Research Foundation. The network is established to promote sharing knowledge and information on various aspects of social and economic development and stimulate discussions by informed individuals on current development issues.

TAKNET organizes thematic and topical discussions focusing on issues of national interest. These discussions by informed and experts result in valuable consensus building on policy and issues of concern to Tanzanian society.

The output influences government decision-making, attracts attention from the public and influences practices in the government as well as civil society institutions. To ensure lively and enriching discussions that result in concrete actions and for the reputation and credibility of the network, interested parties are requested to apply for membership by filling the application form. .

TAKNET considers Partnerships and engagement crucial to its mission. Individuals and organisations are encouraged to partner with ESRF in making the network as effective as possible through activities such as, becoming part of the network steering committee, hosting discussions, contributing input to discussions, and pursuing research topics that have been proposed after network deliberations.

Every given theme have a moderator who in consultation with members, select topics for discussion. The outcomes of a particular discussion are summarised and go through a review and approval procedure before being adopted by the forum. The thematic group, if there is general agreement among them, adopt policy or best practice recommendations. They may also make calls for further research or action among civil society as part of these discussion summaries
